R-10 Smart, Legal, Student-Centered Assessments (NEW!)

Presenter

Formats and Times

  • In-Person Training: 2 hours (8:30-10:30)
  • Live Webinar: 2 hours

Content

This training reviews important verbiage and guidelines of California Education Code that can be used in the assessment process, writing reports, consultations, and overall informing of others. Examples are geared to school psychologists and psychoeducational assessments, but the concepts apply to all who assess. Incorporating California Education Code within one's overall assessment process helps to increase the report's legal defensibility. Participants will see how, using this process, one's report can remain student-centered, clinical and informative instead of appearing just as a legal and procedural-based document. In addition to being used in one's assessment report, such information may be taken back so everyone involved in the student's education shares the same understanding that is aligned to the guidelines of special education.

Intended Audience

Examples are geared to school psychologists, but administrators and anyone who conducts assessments and uses California Ed Code could benefit

Participants Will

  1. Review of the verbiage and guidelines in California Education Code.
  2. Apply California Education Code within reports and consultations in an individualized and student-centered format.
  3. Learn to effectively use multiple sources of information to assess students that are defensible and meaningful.
