Formats and Times

  • In-Person Training: 5 hours (8:30-2:30)
  • On-Demand Webinar: 1 hour

Content

According to the International Dyslexia Association, nearly half of all students receiving special education services are identified with a learning disability—about 85% of whom struggle primarily with reading and language processing. The National Institutes of Health identifies dyslexia as the most common learning disability, affecting roughly one in five children in the United States. This training will explore the Science of Reading and the essential components that lead to skilled reading. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the characteristics of dyslexia and examine Structured Literacy, along with other evidence-based practices designed to support students with reading difficulties. Emphasis will be placed on practical strategies that educators can integrate into existing programs to better meet the needs of struggling readers, including those diagnosed with or showing signs of dyslexia.

Please note: The on-demand webinar is a broad overview without opportunities for discussion, where outcomes will emphasize understanding versus application of knowledge.

Materials: Participants are encouraged, but not required, to bring a device (laptop or tablet) for exploration of online resources.
