Predictable routines are a foundation for the learning, growth, and emotional well-being of students with extensive support needs. These students are most successful when their educational programs are highly structured and provide opportunities for learning within the context of predictable routines. To increase learning outcomes for this unique population of students, educators should systematically develop and establish routines across the school day. Benefits of predictable routines include decreasing anxiety, creating a sense of control, increasing independence, improving focus, decreasing maladaptive behaviors, and supporting communication. This training will include a general overview of how educators can systematically develop predictable routines that support the learning of students with extensive support needs to maximize their educational progress.
