Traditional approaches do not always work well with this population of students. Getting creative is critical! This training will focus on facilitating successful movement from school to post-secondary activities (e.g., integrated employment if applicable, independent living and community participation) for students with extensive support needs and impacted disabilities. Movement to post-secondary activities is guided by an understanding of the student's developmental level and their strengths, preferences, and interests. Critical to the success of this process is: 1) determining students' developmental profile, 2) understanding their strengths, preferences, and interests, 3) translating students' developmental profile into post-secondary activities and goals, and 4) lining up post-secondary activities and goals with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Compliance Indicator 13 and Transition guidelines. Case studies and visual supports will be used to demonstrate the application of practices. Examples of Individual Transition Plans (ITP) will be reviewed for this population of students.
